Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Lucky Shamrock

I'm a lucky shamrock, short and green.
Here is my stem.  Here are my leaves.
When you find me growing on the ground,
Be careful that leprechauns aren't hanging around!

Leprechauns Are Dancing

Leprechauns are dancing,
How they love to play.
Running in the fields and,
Playing tricks all day!
You will never catch one,
No matter what you do.
They sing and dance and play their games,
And run away from you!

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17.        The holiday honors St. Patrick, who first brought Christianity to Ireland.
Irish families wear sprigs of shamrocks. St. Patrick used the shamrock to teach the meaning of the Trinity, and the shamrock became the symbol of the holiday.
Families celebrate by going to parades and festivities with music, singing and the dancing of Irish jigs.
In the United States, St. Patrick's Day is also celebrated with much merrymaking.  Everyone joins in the "wearing of the green". In New York and other large cities there are St. Patrick's Day parades. People wear green hats and wave Irish flags as marching bands pass by playing Irish tunes. Sometimes they paint a green line down the center of the streets!
